Lofoten Adventure Elopement | A Midnight Hike & Sunrise Ceremony in Norway.

Why Lofoten Is One of the Most Magical Places to Elope in Norway.
There are places in the world where time feels still, and Lofoten during the summer is one of them. In the height of the summer, night barely exists. The light softens, the mountains glow, and the sunrise arrives while most of the world is still asleep - making it one of the most magical places for an intimate elopement in Norway, where you can exchange vows atop a mountain above the clouds in the middle of the night, feeling like the only people in the world.
Olivia & Matt knew they wanted something different for their wedding day. Something full of adventure yet slow paced and intentional. They decided that during a bike-packing adventure in Norway, they'd end their trip with a destination elopement in the Lofoten Islands. They had a few of their closest friends fly in to meet them in Lofoten and join them on their next big adventure - a midnight hike to a secret location where they'd take their vows & exchange rings under the arctic sky.
Paddle Boarding Along the Lofoten Coast on Their Elopement Day.
When planning Olivia & Matt's elopement day - they really wanted to focus on slowing down, especially after cycling 800 miles from Bergen to Lofoten! They booked a sweet Airbnb right by the coast as a base for the week. After discovering an SUP rental company on the beach, we decided that was the perfect fun activity to start their elopement day. So the morning before the hike, we headed to the beach and spent most of the time trying to stand on the paddle boards, but also taking time to just relax on the calm waves. After some time, they retired back to their Airbnb to warm up in the sauna with the view of the surrounding mountains, before spending the rest of the afternoon and early evening relaxing, napping, and eating some good food.
A Midnight Hike to a Sunrise Ceremony in Lofoten.
After a slow evening, we started getting ready for the hike as the sun was lowering in the sky. Olivia & Matt took some time separately to write their vows & we made sure to pack plenty of food & snacks before heading out. Wedding outfits and accessories in tow! We reached the trail after midnight - the light was soft and air surprisingly warm, and we began our 2 hour ascent to the top. The first half of the trail was covered in low-lying fog, but after some time we broke through the clouds and entered what felt like a dream. The sky was glowing with pink and orange hues, and we were surrounded by blue mountain peaks. We knew whatever was waiting at the top was going to be otherworldly!
Upon reaching the top, we took some time to decide on the perfect spot for the ceremony before everyone got changed out of their hiking gear and into their gowns & suits. Matt and his groomsmen took one side of the mountain overlooking the sunrise above the clouds - Olivia and the girls taking refuge behind a huge rock to change and touch up her hair and makeup. Once ready, I directed Matt to a private spot on the mountain where Olivia would meet him for their first look.
A 2am Ceremony & traditional Norweigan picnic.
After an emotional first look, the moment we had all waited for arrived, and we began their ceremony - led by their good friend Brandi. They read their personal vows (there wasn't a dry eye on that mountain!) & exchanged rings. Surrounded by nothing but mountain peaks, the arctic sea & clouds that rolled over the top of mountains, all aglow with the golden light from the sunrise. It felt surreal. As an elopement photographer & planner - this was the moment I obsessed over in my mind from the moment Olivia & Matt reached out to me months before, and it turned out even more beautiful than I could have planned for.
Once the ceremony ended, we gathered around to eat some waffles we prepared before we left. Accompanied with jam & brown cheese (a Norweigan staple!) After such a long hike, and all of the excitement - a sweet treat was the perfect way to unwind and really take in the views and the rest of the sunrise before we spent some time exploring and getting some photos.
A post-ceremony Sea Swim
With tired legs, full hearts and full bellies, we hiked down the mountain and headed back to the beach we started on. Olivia and Matt wanted to end their adventure with a swim in the sea. By now it was around 8am! They ran into the water, wedding outfits still on and their friends joined them for one last hurrah before a sauna session and a well deserved sleep! I think everyone had the best sleep of their lives that morning! Only waking up in the afternoon to get ready for dinner at a local restaurant.
